Sticky Deformer Layer
A Sticky Deformer deforms the vertices using an extra transform controller that follows the animated geometry. It is possible to create a sticky deformer on any asset with geometry in Rumba. That sticky deformer can even be animated.
Create a Sculpt Deformer Layer
To create a Sticky Deformer Layer:
Select part of the asset you want (a controller for a rig asset or an object of a USD/Alembic asset)
In the Layers view, Right Click on the
button, or go to the Layers menu, then select Create Sticky Deformer
Using the Sticky Deformer
Before anything else, you must paint an anchor to specify what part of the geometry your Sticky Deformer will follow. Left Click on the
button on the Sticky Deformer Layer.
Then, you must specify which vertex will be affected by the Sticky Deformer. There are several methods to do so. When you click on the Sticky Deformer Layer, in the Attributes view, there is a Weights Mode drop down list.
The default option is override, which means you use an influence sphere to determine the desired vertices. You can Left Click on the
button to select that sphere, then move and scale it.
The skip option means you paint the influence you want. You can Left Click on the
button to activate the paint mode to select the vertices.
The multiply and additive options are a mix of influence from the paint mode and the sphere mode. multiply is the vertices that are present in both the painting and the sphere. additive is the union of all the vertices from the painting and the sphere.
Now that the vertices that will be moved are defined, you can Left Click on the
button to move the vertices.
Note
Both the influence sphere (
) and the movement of the vertices (
) can be animated in the Sticky Deformer Layer’s timeline.
